The City of Lyons operates a compost facility under a permit from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KSSWCM000693). The City of Lyons Yard Waste Composting Facility is located ½ mile east of the Dinsmore and East Taylor intersection.
The City Clerk’s Office will issue yearly permits to city residents and lawn care businesses for the sum of $5.00 for residents and $25.00 for lawn care businesses or other commercial ventures. Additionally, non-residents will be able to purchase finished compost and wood chips for the sum of $10.00 per cubic yard.
Dates and Hours of Operation
April 1 to December 1 every year: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. (Daylight Savings 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.).
The Compost Facility is closed Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. At no times will the Lyons Yard Waste Composting Facility be opened without an operator. Furthermore the City of Lyons Compost Facility will be closed in observance of the following holidays: Labor Day, Veterans Day, Good Friday, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Memorial Day, and Independence Day (4th of July).

The City of Lyons Yard Waste Composting Facility will accept and process:
Incoming waste will be processed within one week on a regular basis. Leaves received will be mixed with grass clippings and garden waste when put out in windrows. All non-compostable wastes will be directed to the County Landfill for disposal
