Lyons City Council...

The City of Lyons operates on the Mayor-Council form of government. The Mayor is the chief governing official of the City of Lyons. The City Council includes eight members that represent four wards in town. An election is held every year for four of the council members and there is an election every two years for a Mayor.

The City Council holds its regular meetings at City Hall on the first and third Monday of each month at 6 p.m.

Planning Commission...

It is in every city's best interest to avoid the sporadic, haphazard development that follows from unplanned growth in a community. To prevent unplanned growth issues from hampering the quality of life to the citizens of Lyons, the Planning Commission has created several documents to guide City staff in dealing with growth.

The City of Lyons Planning Commission is responsible for the creation and implementation of:

Zoning Ordinance
Subdivision Regulations

The Planning Commission meets monthly on the third Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.

Zoning Board of Appeals...

The Board of Zoning Appeals has the power to hear and decide appeals from decisions regarding the application of zoning regulations made by the building inspector or other chief building official in the administration of zoning regulations. The Board may grant variances and exceptions from the City of Lyons Zoning Regulations, if the request meets conditions prescribed by state law.

The Board of Zoning Appeals meets only if there is a variance request before the body.
